Flowers, Stem, Leaves and Roots- Giveaway

First of all sorry my blog looks all sorts of crazyy- we are working on it! =)

We have been singing the Parts of a Flower Dr Jean song like crazy because I am trying to get my kids ready for my gardening unit in March. I figure if we start singing it now they will remember it when we get back from intersession. This intersession we combine with the regular schools spring break so we get 2 weeks off- oh the joys of teaching year round (someone please remind me that I love year round when I am driving to school on July 5th.)

Anyways back to the point... I must have looked like a real crazy when I was walking through Target today singing "flowers, stem, leaves, and roots!" At least I wasn't doing the hand motions right...?

My kids love anything Dr. Jean so this informative silly little song is such a hit, especially the last verse when the song goes super fast and I can't keep up bust out my moves! =)

In honor of intersession, Spring, and Dr. Jean's amazing parts of a flower song I am going to give away my Spring Gardening unit to one lucky winner since my Saint Patrick's Day giveaway was so fun! This is partially my motivation to finish updating this unit by tonight!

It's going to be a quick giveaway because I am leaving for Jamaica on Monday! I am so excited about this but no blogging, no internet, no TPT?!!? I actually may have withdraws and I may have given my mom my password, required her to download the TPT app and told her to text me with daily updates or I may not have...who knows!

Its simple to enter- follow the blog, the TPT store, and if you blog about the giveaway I will give you a little bonus!

The picture will take you to my TPT store!

Five For Friday- Assessment Crazy

I am linking up again for Five for Friday with Doodle Bugs Teaching if I can get this post off before midnight I will be in good shape!

1. First things first, hello four/five day weekend! We have Monday off for Presidents Day and on Tuesday we have a teacher work day! Can I just say that I love those! Not because I don't love my K babies but I really love to dust, clean, organize, prepare, and maybe chat a bit with my girls. Its really just to bad I don't love to clean, dust and organize my own house, hmmm....

2. Our teacher work day is really a report card day. I will make sure to get mine done over the weekend so I can do all sorts of other fun things (see above.) This week has been a fun week of assessing. We use data binders to hold all of the assessments for the year so I like to have lots of bodies of evidence for the parents. To do this I made a math assessment and a reading assessment pack. This pack allows me to assess the student and know exactly what standard I have assessed (because I added the standard in the corner.) Not all the reading standards lend well to paper pencil assessments but I gave most of them a try!

3.  We have also been focusing a lot on progress monitoring and informal assessments. I have been using Deanna Jump's kindergarten common core posters for learning goals. I make sure the kids know the goal and throughout the lesson I ask them to evaluate their progress on the goal by using their thumbs. Here is a picture of the rubric.

4. We had an awesome Valentine's Day party on Thursday! The kids graphed candy hearts, made cards, exchanged valentines, eat a ton of snacks and really had a blast!

5. Lastly I got quite a surprise on Thursday when my boyfriend had beautiful flowers and cup cakes delivered to my classroom.

One of the kids came over to see the cup cakes and I told her I didn't know how I was going to eat them all. She then said "Well don't you have a husband?" I told her that no, I didn't have a husband. Her response.... "Well maybe you should try to get a husband. They eat everything." Definitely one of the highlights from the year!

I hope you enjoy your weekend!
